I suppose this is smearing over a bit into heraldry, but has anyone had experience designing a clan badge and having one cast?

I only ask because it occurred to me that I might be able to do one for my mom's family even though we really don't, to my knowledge, have one. There are elements of Auld William's coat of arms that could be used and a motto...how involved is it?

I have my favorite jewelry folks, Ram's Horn Studios...would it be more expedient to sketch up a design and ship it off to them or is the process of doing the pewter casting something that a reasonably capable guy could manage on his own?
