There are three simple steps to understand the preceding comments.

1) Watch every episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
2) Read all five books in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy.
3) Develop a deep appreciation of the band They Might Be Giants. This has nothing to do with the comments, but it helps one enjoy the surreal humour they typify. If you find that TMBG is too surreal, Weird Al is an acceptable substitute.
