This most likely has been discussed before but i'm throwing it out there anyway.

How do you respond when someone says to you "Nice skirt"
Should you really be insulted if someone says nice skirt?
Before you belt someone, its possible they meant it as a compliment.
After all,the modern day kilt is a skirt even though its considered a mans garment is it not.

Than again, maybe you should consider how its said and by whom.
Take for instance a couple of punk kids in a mall calling it a skirt and laughing at you (I've had this happen)
I have allso had an elderly gentleman ask "Why are you wearing a skirt?"
I have allso had two very elderly ladies snicker an look at each other in horror while my wife an I were shoping for yard plants at Lowes. My wife and I just laughed that one off,but i had two totally different responces to the first two above.

How have you handled your kilt being called a skirt?
I know this has bound to have happened to all that have worn the kilt for any length of time.
