The weekend of 5-6 July my wife and I went to the Angelbachtal Highland Games just a short distance from Heidelberg, Germany.

It is a small venue, but takes place on the grounds of a Schloss (loosely translated a palace, this one is more like a country house.) The grounds are beautiful and the weather was in the mid-70s. Perfect Day on Saturday, Sunday we had some rain.

There were about 8 bands present, solo competitons on Sunday, Highland game events for men and women, a few vendors, and lots to eat (including haggis, and drink (couple of scotch whisky booths and Guiness was there too)

Here are a few pics. Small crowd but I met some nice Germans who share an interest in kilts.

The bands were from the Bagpipe Association of Germany and they compete in at least 4 of about 6 Games over the summer season. The final one is in September, where the overall season winners will be announced. I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway, enjoy the pictures.

The first one above is the host band leading the parade into the grounds.

This is the manor house. It sets surrounded by a small moat.

The vendor area. I didn't buy anything. I can get it cheaper on-line.

One of the ladies teams. The Iron Maidens.

One of the Mens teams.

The massed bands marching in Saturday afternoon for the award presentations. The 1st place band in each grade also received a bottle of whisky from a sponsor. One band walked (or staggered, they opend a bottle or two) away with about 5 bottles.

Last Picture. Son following in the footsteps of his father. The father competed in the Games. He had quite a sunburn by the end of the day.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.
