On this date...
On 21 July 1796, the poet Robert Burns died in Dumfries at the age of 37.
The National Library of Scotland maintains a nice informational site about the life & legacy of Burns:

Tonight I will life a wee dram of "inspiring, bold John Barleycorn" to Scotland's most famous son and the poet-laureate of the human race, Robert Burns.
