I understand the function of the kilt pin is just as a weight. I've seen and rented fancy sword shaped kilt pins as well as all kinds of variations...from battle axes to rampant lions and thistles. All of them have a thin wire pin--the part that actually pierces the fabric of the kilt.

Then there's the old safety pin type kilt pin that the military uses. I have several of these and put off buying a kilt pin figuring I would use one of them. But examining them both, the pin part is probably four times as thick as the more ornamental kilt pins. I am a bit hesitant to jab one of these in my brand new tank. I would suspect that once I do the holes will never close back up and I'll never be able to use another type. Any advice, or thoughts on this concern would be appreciated.

Oh, BTW...one other question--if I do go with the safety pin type, is the head worn up or down?
