I took Ann into Gilbert Wilson of Hawick's wool shop in town today. They sell their own production of ladies and gents jumpers and also other brands of woollen wear. Ann bought herself a hat and a jumper. The lady mentioned that they now stock gents woollen kilts and I was invited to go through the back and have a look and try one on. Well the kilts are pure Scottish wool, but they are very light weight, the sort of weight one might expect to find in a ladies' kilt. Still they do have leather buckles and a stitched down fell at the back, and at just £25 compare very favourably with those acrylic kilted skirts which one so often finds labelled as Highland Kilts designed in Scotland in the same price range. The kilts come complete with a large safety pin type kilt pin attached only to the outer apron. The shop had a reasonable stock in a variety of tartans and sizes, however the choice was made for me as there was only one in my size which was in a tartan I did not have already. I tried on this Gordon Dress Modern and Ann really liked it and insisted on buying it for me as a present.
Not smart enough to wear to church but should be fine for casual wear.

Profile view, must hold my stomach in better.
There are plenty of narrow pleats at the back, but as one might expect from such thin material they do not hang as well as would a heavyweight kilt.
