A kilt a few inches above the knee isn't really a don't, or if it is, isn't a capitol don't. In former times the Highland regiments wore them quite higher than they usually are today. Also, some prefer to wear them higher, finding that it's more comfortable when the kilt doesn't hit the back of the knee when walking, especially when hiking.
