That accent used to be typical of most of the Islands (though Lewis and Harris sound more like The Cook from The Muppet Show), but in some (like Islay, Skye, Mull) there have been a lot of incomers over the last few decades and many of them won't make any effort to learn the Gaelic which was probably the source of the accent. I don't think, however, that any of the actors in the movie came from the Islands (although Sir Compton Mackenzie lived, and is buried, on Barra) - the nearest was Glasgow (Gordon Jackson and Duncan Macrae).
