R Kilts Mach 5 Hemp Kilt
As many of you may realise, I am a staunch traditionalist where the kilt is concerned, but when I saw Robert Pel's Mach 5 version I was struck by the sheer practicality of the design, very much in keeping with the traditional look, but with a contemporary twist.
Many hours where spent scrutinising the R Kilts website, many messages where sent to Robert with questions concerning the mach 5, and finally I decided to take the plunge and order a black hemp mach 5 from R Kilts.
Robert kept me well advised as to the progress in the build, and promised to provide photo's of it's construction, the day finally arrived when Robert advised that the kilt had been built and was on it's from Canada to it's new home on the West Coast of Scotland.
The package arrived today, and for the first time I was able to scrutinise it's construction close at hand, I must say that I am very very impressed by the sheer attention to detail, the quality of craftsmanship and with Robert's unique design, included was the R Kilts Ranger belt, again handcrafted by the master himself, another impressive piece of kit.
All my worries and concerns that such a staunch traditionalist wouldn't like a modern contemporary kilt where dispelled, it's a work of art, a fitting tribute to Robert's skills as a craftsman, and whatsmore it's a sheer delight to wear, even on a dreich cold and windy day such as today.
So with no further ado, on with the photo's
The master at work,
the belt loops going on
Ranger belt being cut to length
Belt component parts
The finished product on a highly satisfied customer
was a bit to windy for the usual pleat shot
Conclusion
R Kilts Mach 5 is extremely well designed and constructed, comfortable to wear, and a worthy addition to the collection, it's a joy to wear in a casual manner, but would look equally good dressed up with any sporran.
Robert is a sheer delight to work with, answering all questions and keeping the customer well advised as to the progress of the build, I highly recommend anyone looking for a contemporary kilt to look no further than R Kilts, they will not be disappointed
