Jaime. I think it works wonderfully. And I even think the slip-on shoes work for a walking outfit.
Hamish and Jock: The deerstalker actually gets worn fairly often in Glasgow. There are a lot of older and some younger gents who have it as everyday attire there.
While I was in school there was an old highland man who wore his Kilt and tweed jacket with a deerstalker EVERY day. He would go on a long walk all around the local park and had such a fine bearing and obvious confidence that none of the school children ever made fun of him.
