I was in the same quandry you are now, some time ago. I'm predominently Irish so I'll wear "Universal" Scottish Tartans But there are some truly nice Irish County Tartans from either House of Edgar or Lochcarron. There are also two versions on the Ulster Tartan. All of the above are extremely nice looking and my mouth waters everytime I think about getting a tank in any of the above. The Scots and the Irish are sort of interchangeable as they moved about the Isles looking for work etc. The producers of the cloth see the U.S. Irish as another marketing venue and we have not let them down. The important thing is to pick one, learn about the history of the Tartan, and wear it with pride knowing full well that you an Irishman wearing a Scottish clothing item. We all know that it was the Irish who first came up with the idea well before Mel Gibson started to rally others to the cause.
