Hello and welcome from the Cape Fear River Valley, NC

Just my tuppence worth here. First as to the clan affiliation: I was told by my Scots mother (Island Scots, not Highland) that one becomes a member of a clan in one of three ways. 1) being born into it. 2) marrying into it, and 3) being assimilated into it. (She was born in 1900) Also remember while there usually was a blood relationship, others joined for protection, and adopted the Clan name as part of the process.

As far as kiltmaking is concerned, probably the best source is the book by our forum member, Barbara T. The Art of Kiltmaking

Even if you have no intentions of ever making a kilt, the book is worth the price as a guide as to what to look for when buying a quality kilt.

Happy kilting!
