I was actually at SeaWorlds San Diego the other day and as part of the sea lion and harbor seal display an announcer passed around two samples of sea lion and seal skin to feel. The sea lion would be no great substitute for the seal as its fur is shorter and harsher, not nearly as luxurient. Probably why they are not hunted to the same degree as seals.

Speaking of PETA, I was at the Kentucky Scottish Weekend a couple days ago and saw this printed on a local's t-shirt:
PETA--- People for Eating Tasty Animals (and on the back)
I love all God's creatures, fried and right next to my mashed potatoes and gravy.
