You are correct. I spent so many years a s a pediatrician doing the simplest math possible for drug and dosage calculations and we always worked on the 30 grams per oz rule, so I just stayed in that mode. Taking that into account then the following calculations should be correct:

a "fabric yard" of 16oz tartan ought to weigh about 452 grams (or 325 grams per sq meter) give or take, 13 oz tartan ought to weigh 390 grams (or 280 grams per sq meter), 10 oz tartan 283 grams (or 203 grams per sq meter).

MM Jura range tartan (I randomly chose Black Isle since I have a kilt in that tartan from them) is listed as 331g/sm and 16 oz (actually more like 16.3 oz tartan if you do the math).

That is more like it.
