My natural inclination is that civilian and military dress shouldn't be mixed, but then I stumbled on these fine folks:

I thought "Hey, if the air force has it...". Also, I'm under the impression that the wear of decorations on civilian cloths is for those who have retired. Am I correct? And is there someone that I should be asking in my command, like supply?

Also...what do you reenact? I'm a US CW guy myself.

If you're in the Army, never use the Air Force as a role model! That was an interservice rivalry joke...please don't beat me up Air Force Guys and Gals!!

To answer your question about retirees...while retirees may also wear their medals, the regulation stipulates that active personnel may also wear decorations with formal civilian attire. I've pulled excerpts from AR 670-1 below:

29–4. When wear of awards is prohibited.
The wear of awards is prohibited in the following circumstances.
a. On any uniform other than those authorized in this regulation. (See section 704, title 18, United States Code (18
USC 704) for the penalty for unauthorized wear of the uniform.)
b. When serving a sentence of confinement.
c. When wearing civilian clothing, except for civilian awards, lapel buttons, or rosettes intended for wear with civilian clothing. Soldiers may wear miniature medals on formal civilian attire at formal social functions, when the
wear of the Army uniform is inappropriate or not authorized.

29–9. Wear of miniature decorations and service medals
a. Miniature medals are replicas of regular size medals, made to a scale of one-half the size of the original. Except
for the Medal of Honor, for which there is no miniature, only miniature decorations and service medals are authorized
for wear on the mess and evening mess uniforms. Personnel will not wear full-size medals, service and training
ribbons, or U.S. and foreign unit award emblems with miniature medals. Only the dress miniature-size combat and
special skill badges are worn with miniature medals.
b. Miniature decorations and service medals are authorized for wear on the following uniforms.
(1) Male personnel. On the Army white and blue uniforms, the white and blue mess and evening mess uniforms;
and on the left lapel of formal civilian attire, when wear of Army uniforms is inappropriate or not authorized.Miniature badges are authorized for wear on the AG shade 415 shirt. (See para 29–17b for wear of combat and special

What did you mean by CW? Was that a typo?

Regarding reenactments...I reenact the F&I and Rev War periods. I portray a longhunter/scout with some native influences.
