    A brave new world...

(My apologies to Aldus Huxley for the title of this thread! lol)

So my family and I ventured out today to brave the Christmas horde at the much-dreaded mall. As I've alluded to in other posts, it is my understanding, though nothing is being confirmed exactly, that I will be receiving my first kilt from my wife, through a combined financial effort with her mom (points for the in-laws!) for Christmas. (*sigh* I love that woman!! ) So, today, in JCPenney, I was looking around aimlessly and was suddenly drawn to the men's department where a waistcoat caught my eye. Though I don't exactly know what I'm getting Christmas day, I couldn't help imagining how it would look with either of the two tartans I'd asked for. "What the heck?" I decided and I slipped it on for size.

Quite comfy! Felt well made and at $19.99 (down from $60), I thought it to be quite the steal! "BUT," I thought, trying to resist purchase, "I don't really have the money right now, I don't know what I'm getting for Christmas... etc. etc."

    THEN!

I noticed it was missing a button! Being the bargain shopper I was, I immediately asked the clerk if they would discount the item for me at all. She said they would take of 10% at the counter for me.
    SOLD!

So there I am, standing in line to purchase a vest for a kilt I don't have and (here's where I may lose some of you... Jock Scot, turn away now...) there, in the corner was a rack of tweed flatcaps! I don't wear flatcaps. Never have. Yet tonight, I found myself driving home with a brand new vest and a quality flatcap all in preparation for a kilt I "don't know about" and a thought struck me. I'm looking at men's clothing in a whole new way. I wouldn't have given these items a second glance before my love for kilts and, frankly, my discovery of XMTS and the knowledge I've acquired here. Kilts are taking me through quite a paradigm shift, fashion-wise.... and I like it!

Oh, and I promise to take pictures Christmas morning!
