Hose, how many do you need?

I'd love to learn. I just don't know anyone who knits that could teach me. How did you learn to knit? From a book, or by someone teaching you in person?

There's a learn to knit kilt hose group on the DIY forum. I signed up and thought better before I even before I started. I'm hoping Scooby can knit me some hose someday, afterall, I have made him two kilts(so far). I'm hinting at some traditional garter ties to start him off easy.

Interestingly, his mother convinced him to take up knitting to calm his mind and body; one of the things she used to get him in the groove at the start was the fact that in days of old knitting was income producing and therefore men's work, it's only recently that its perception has changed.
