Adding elastic to k1 p1 ribbing
No doubt you recall the green knee high socks I recently made for my wife. They look great, but unfortunately don't stay up. Turns out my wife's legs are shaplier (is that a word?) than mine and she could have used a bit more of a decrease at the top of the leg than I did. Elastic to the rescue! Here's how I managed to add elastic to the inside of the k1 p1 ribbing:

I picked up one side of every rib (every other stitch) and knit the elastic cord into it. I then pulled the previous elastic stitch over as if I was binding off. I secured the elastic with a small knot at the end. I put three of these in the cuff section of each sock, bottom, middle and top. I imagine this may be helpful for those of you with kilt hose that won't stay up that you don't want to wear with garters.
