At one point, some time ago when I was just starting out with kilts, the Luminous Joan made a skirt comment and rolled her eyes. I turned around and told her firmly to her face that she had no right to tell me what to wear, I was an adult and I would make my own decisions about what I wore and she could just keep quiet about it. It was a pretty face-up confrontation for us.

Since then, the issues have been much, much less about my kilt-wearing. The ratio of "miniskirt" comments to "you look nice" comments is now about 1 to 20.

But she'll still never wear tartan. Ever. For anything. However, that's her right...if I can wear a kilt whether she likes it or not, she doesn't have to wear anything tartan, just because it would make me smile, either. That's Fair. It's not very "friendly and loving" but it's fair, and fair is a lot better than "not fair".

What totally befuddles me is that even though she won't wear the skirt I got her, she won't give it away or sell it, either. She gets right angry when the topic comes up.
