Time for a New York State tartan?
Ordinarily I'd have started a thread like this in The Tartan Place, but I wanted to catch the attention of as many New York Members as possible and I think General Kilt Talk gets the most traffic. If the moderators move it then so be it ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
In a thread on state tartans Woodsheal bemoaned the fact that NY State has no tartan of its own. I agree that as one of the larger states and having many Highland games and other Scottish activities it's high time we had one and I volunteered to get the ball rolling with a design idea. I've been designing on the Scotweb Tartan Designer for awhile and figured I could come up with a rough idea.
One thing the other Brian suggested was to base it on New York State geography, which i think is good because if we start going down the political or historical road we'll have way too many elements we'd have to work in, and, of course, fights will ensue about what is, or is not, important or essential.
So, as a start, I've used Old Green, Pine Needle and Pastoral Green to represent the mountains, forests and rolling hills of our state. 39 Brown to represent the farmland so many are unaware of. Morning Grey for the cities and 17 Blue for our many lakes and rivers.
What do you think? Yes? No? Are there other design suggestions?
