Hey folks. I just heard this story from Bob & Tom this morning and thought I would share.

It seems that he is welcome to wear the kilt during the Convocation after the ceremony, but not during Commencement.

I though about doing this myself, but upon trying on the cap and gown that I would be weraing for Convocation and my Hooding Ceremony, I noticed that the gown was too long for even the bottom of the Kilt to show. Only Kilt hose and my brogues would have been visable. Most schools will allow the wearing of "ethnic" colors in the form of sashes and cords (just like for honors and fraternity/sorority membership) over the shoulders.

Given this, and I wish I had thought of this before my graduation, why not wear a tartan sash in the form of a 4-6" wide tartan draped forward over both shoulders. The clansmans badge or brooch could be used as a weight to keep this mini plaid under control during a breeze.

Not true highland wear, but a great way to add a bit of color from one's heritage during an auspicious ceremony.
