It won't be truly formal, they are for my son's christening in Washington State. I had NO black dress shoes whatsoever, and I figured that a) I'm tough on shoes most of the time, and b) they look nice enough to wear to church. Which is where I'm going

I understand that the soles of the shoes are quite chunky and won't do well for a ball or any other black/white tie affair, but so far their comfort and durability are my main concern. Although, I didn't want to wear my brown Doc Martens to a child's christening, especially MY child's christening :P

When the spousal unit allows me off restriction from large purchases, I will be investing in a nice pair of brogues, as I do occasionally attend classier events that require a higher level of dress.
