I have been wanting to get another kilt for about three months now. This time in a tartan to honor my great grandmother (Maclean). Besides, the last one I got was in 1997 and is a bit snug. I got my vacation pay last week so I dropped the hammer. I ordered it from John Higgins again. Amazingly they stil had a file from the last time I ordered one 13 years ago.
I ordered a Maclean Hunting Ancient 16oz, 8yard. Unfortunately, their stock is single width only for this tartan (Modern, as well). It makes for a nice seemless kilt, but it is also $100 more. I thought seriously about getting the Maclean of Duart (red) but I have a MacDonald Modern which has quite a bit of red. So the Hunting will be a drastic color change in my kilt wardrobe. Most of the pictures of the chief, Sir Lachlan Maclean, shows him in the Hunting tartan so I have an excellent visual reference of what looks good with it.
So in 8 weeks give or take, I will have a review. Gives me plenty of time to convert two of my suit jackets to something more sensible.
