deciding on day wear

I am also appreciating the link "smart casual". Those posts have been really helpful, especially if there's no immediate budget for a jacket. Excellent suggestions! Do folks wear a leather sporran belt for day and evening wear?

I think the concensus is that a leather sporran strap is ALWAYS preferable for day (though there are those out there that do wear a plain chain for day wear). For eveningwear, it kind of depends on preference and the type of sporran. If you're wearing a fur sporran, you'd probably stick with leather. If your sporran has a fancy silver cantle, then a fancy silver chain to go with it is a nice touch.
