Folkwear PC jacket pattern anybody have any advice?
Hello!
I'm currently making the PC jacket and waistcoat from Folkwear's pattern #152, 'Scottish Kilts' for myself, and I had a couple of questions regarding others' experience with the pattern, and just the structure of a PC jacket (specifically the tail and sleeve flaps.)
Okay: question 1)
The darts in the front of the jacket are giving me pause. I sewed them according to the pattern, and they ended up shaping the front of the jacket almost to the extent of looking like a ladies jacket. (Besides being really wide at the waistline, they are a bit curved rather than straight.) I took them out and restitched them straight, which helped some, but there is still a lot of shape in it, and it's like, halfway between my chest and my waist...not really somewhere I need shape in the jacket. :P I was wondering if anybody else has any insight into whether that shaping is meant to be there, if I'm just over-thinking this, or what...I'm not sure.
Question 2)
Made according to the pattern, the flaps on the tails and sleeves are a single layer fabric which gets turned under and edge stitched on. My mom was thinking they should be actually two part flaps (like a pocket flap). If I was to buy a PC jacket, how would the flaps be done? And what do you think? Are the single layer edge-stitched flaps okay, or should they be like pocket flaps. The concern is that they don't really show up a whole lot...
I'm kind of torn because I've already get them in according to the pattern., and I'm ready to finish the jacket (aside from the dart problem above,) so I'd like to just finish, but at the same time time, I want to do it the best way possible. I can't really find any pictures of PC jacket that are good enough resolution or that you can really see the flaps to know how they should look.
Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks a bunch!
