    Another Royal wedding.

It has been announced this week that Miss Zara Phillips, Her Majesty The Queen's Grand Daughter, is to be married later this year, in Scotland. I have no idea of the details, but kilt watchers could well have something to view on this occasion.

Do you think so, Jock? Perhaps you are expecting an invitation and can wear your kilt there but as the groom is a dyed in the wool English rugby player it seems extremely unlikely he will be wearing the kilt and I would think most of their friends and family will be likewise. There might have been more chance of some "kilties" at the wedding of the couple who were elbowed out to make way for the Royals on that day.

Hello Phil, nice to see that you are still about.

I know not any details of the wedding, but at a guess there would be a fair chance that the Scots rugby captain and a few of the Scots team may be invited---who knows. Again at a guess, as Miss Phillips is not a "senior" Royal and does prefer a lower Royal profile, the need for uniforms et al are diminished somewhat, so we shall have to wait and see about kilts.

Zara Phillips, like her brother, has no royal title as she is a grandchild of the Monarch through the female line.

And as her father did not take a title on marriage she does not have one from him either.

And any royal progeny that appear from those ahead of her in the line of succession will knock her down the list from her current position at #12.

I wouldn't be surprised if she sells the rights of coverage for the wedding to Hello magazine like her brother did.

One would hope that some of the guests will be kilted but it's highly unlikely that the groom will be.

There have been several commentaries on the wedding by Australian tabloid current affairs shows recently, mainly about the palace vetoing the supposed deal with a magazine to cover the wedding. I am sure that there will be gushing commentaries on the same shows the Monday morning after the wedding

I see that Lothian & Borders police (for that read Edinburgh rate-payers) are expecting to foot the bill for security at the event. Never mind, maybe the Council will divert the funds from other less needy areas like education and welfare. Oh no, I forgot the 200 million or so pounds the new trams have overrun on the budget. Ah well (sigh)

Is the venue to be in the Edinburgh area then Phil?

Yes, at the Canongate kirk on 30th July. I think you posted photos of it at one time. It has a statue of the poet, Robert Fergusson outside on the pavement, the one Robert Burns erected a gravestone for.
Seemingly we are all going to have to stump up for the £543,000 police bill - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/to...ill.6802580.jp - which is is disappointing when we are not to be allowed to even witness the happy event as the police are telling the public to stay away - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/ne...ion.6798067.jp .

Was it the Americans who said "No taxation without representation"? And we won't be represented at the wedding
