Irish Propaganda Posters?

At first I thought we probably shouldn't put too much stock in the historical accuracy of the flag or the kit he's wearing because his pipes only have one tenor drone... Yeah... check me out. Smarty Bloke!

Thought I'd better have a quick wizz round t'interweb first before posting so I didn't make a complete ar*e of meeself as usual, and found this.

The Irish War Pipes (seen above) or Brian Boru Pipes (i.e., two drone) were on Ordnance issue until the early 1960`s. There was a mix of two drone and Scottish three drone Pipes from about 1945 and 1946.

The first time that the Irish Regimental Pipers were accepted at the Piping school in Edinburgh they had to use the three drone pipes, this was about 1946. Most of the Pipers all came from Ulster and had their own pipes because they played in Civilian bands; they also used the three drone pipes.

Most Pipers will wear silver buckles on the piper shoe, however the MICKS Pipers do not, this is due to John Redmond, when John first presented the pipes to the Regiment, the master shoe maker, cut down the uppers on the second pair of shoes that were issued to all pipers, this was to make one pair very heavy with flap tongues. To this day the Irish Guards Pipers do still not wear silver buckles.

You learn new stuff everyday. I've served with the Royal Irish Rangers and their Pipers didn't play two drone Irish Warpipes.
They played Great Highland Bagpipes but now I know why. And I thought they were one and the same... Tishhk.

The arms of Ireland are: azure, a harp or.

If you ever see Aras an Uachtaráin (the house of the Irish President) in Phoenix Park it is a St Patrick's blue flag that flies outside with the gold harp. I admit to having to look this last bit up, but it is because it is the Irish Presidential Standard.

Thanks, English Bloke!! That's a great painting that's got it all: the green caubeen with green hackle, the saffron kilt, the saffron flashes, the rifle green bag cover, and the St Patrick blue streamers on the pipes. "Faugh a Ballagh" was originally the motto of the Royal Irish Fusiliers but is now the motto of the Royal Irish Regiment (consolidated from the Fusiliers, the Royal Irish Rangers, and the Royal Ulster Rifles). The Brian Boru pipes were technically better than the GHB because they could play 12 notes as opposed to 8. The problem was that no one wanted to make Brian Borus, so the art died out.
