Slightly off Kilt purchasing and more to plans for your forthcoming visit.
If you are going to be in the Southern end of Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway) and you're thinking of stopping off in the town of Dumfries to investigate the home of the Great Bard, Robert Burns, might I suggest you book yourselves into here for a night or two: Ferintosh Guest House There's also some good reviews on Trip Advisor.co.uk (google's your friend)
Robertson and Emma run a very clean and Kilt friendly guest house which provides a full breakfast and there is always a dram of Single Malt in your room. It's also just over the road from the Station and a ten minute stroll into the centre of town.
As a point of interest, Robertson and Emma also host the infamous Ferintosh Burns Suppers and the preceding kilted pub crawl which draw people from as far afield as Australia, Canada and the US, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Turkey and more. They even on occasion have English people turn up.
Robertson is also a member here (advance search for threads by "Pour1Malt") and has entertained both Steve the Forum Owner and Hamish the Kilted Legend! You'd be in exalted company once a member of the "I've Stayed at Ferintosh" Club. (I don't think there's a T-Shirt)
The Burns Suppers unfortunately, are a start of the year event so you've missed 'em but there's nothing to stop you enjoying their wonderful hospitality on your visit. A more charming couple you couldn't want to meet.
If you were considering going there by train, it's a two hour journey from Edinburgh with a change at Carlisle in Englandshire. As I said, the Guest House is directly opposite Dumfries Station Entrance on Lover's Walk (see google maps)
I urge you to try it out. My wife and I have been to Ferintosh quite a few times now and had a blast on each and every occasion. I highly recommend it.
Either way, I hope you have a fantastic time, where ever you happen to go. Don't forget the pictures.
