    Tartan Like Material

    This is a question that maybe you guys and gals can answer. I am trying to find a Campbell tartan material that is not wool, maybe a cotton or a mix. I have tried the local Jo Annes Fabric store near where I live and they said they couldn't order anything specific and only had what they are shipped.

    Maybe you all have an on-line idea or other source.

    Hopefully that helps, I just googled "synthetic tartan." Although you could replace the "synthetic" with anything...

    If you want the best synthetic Tartan fabric you need go no further than Marton Mills.

    Here is their Campbell Tartan.

    Marton Mill's website confuses me so much! How do you search their wool fabrics? Sorry I am such a newb!

    Nvm, I found it.

    Gosh I love their fabrics! And the pics they have online look a lot like their swatches! Ugh...love it!

    Marton Mills:

    You're right, It seems to be a "looking at", rather than a "tells you stuff" website and not simple to navigate.

    Have I got this right?

    Jura = 16oz Wool
    Bute = 13oz Wool
    Glamis = 11oz Wool

    Steve? Which one is the PV range?

    Where do you find the prices per yard? I'm assuming there is a difference between trade (bulk) and retail (one off kilt lengths).

    How wide is the fabric? (single / double / both)

    Forgive my higgorance but this is stuff I'd need to know if I was looking to buy 8 yards from them... Do they even sell one offs direct to Joe Public?

    It is nice fabric though. My Randonnée Bretonne (Brittany Walking) is 13oz Marton Mills special weave. It makes a lovely Kilt.

    EB, if you go to the Marton Mills site, click on Schoolwear, then on the left hand side , click on Balmoral, it will bring up all the P V tartans (79 of them)

    As for cost, I couldn't find anything. I think the average punter can buy direct ( I think someone mentioned in a thread at sometime)

    As for width of the fabric, I am sure one of the kiltmakers here will chime in

    All the best for your project

    Thanks Downunder, Thanks Paul. It was only after I'd posted that I realised Steve had linked to the Balmoral (PV) section. The rest is all useful though. Appreciated.

    Back to the original question, we do have some 10% cotton tartan available, in limited stock.
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/cotton.htm

    We don't have any Campbell remaining, but you said "Campbell-like." Depending on how close you need it to be, we do have Lamont.

    Thanks for the input and the links!

    The main reason I ask is that I am trying to make a couple of table clothes and possibly a banner for the Clan Campbell tent that we have here in Vista Ca. for the games next year. It looks like I may be the local Clan Campbell member manning the tent and I didn't want to go crazy on price but I want to dress it up a little by little. Like many others I have some limited funds and I need to take it one step at a time.

    I'll start doing some more research from the places you all have noted.

    So far the Marton Mills looks the closest to what I think I want.

    Thanks!
