Cheers kc. You're right, and the US system is confusing for foreigners who are used to "what you see is what you pay". I've been to the States a few times and the first time I WAS caught out by assuming the advertised price was the all in price as it is here. One learns fast though.

    My point was that:
£65 converts (as at today) to $106-ish and $65 converts to £39-ish
UK price £65 - US Price (converted) £39 = £26 or $42-ish more expensive in UK.
If we go the other way:
UK price (converted) $106 - US price $65 = $41 (in other words near enough the same)

That's a lot of Tax though assuming it is Tax. 40% more in fact.

Consequently I wouldn't buy them because it feels to me like a rip off. Not that I don't like the shoes themselves you understand, I just don't like them enough to part with 65 quid...

OK, I'll admit it. I have a pair of these which I have worn with my Stewart Royal USA Casual. My wife HATES 'em. They ARE comfortable, they really flex since they are fabric. I'll further have to admit to wearing them to the "Taste of Scotland" in Franklin NC in June this year (my wife was not with me). I was wearing my House of Edgar Wallace kilt.

I have worked at the twice-yearly sample shoe sales for a few years, and I noticed a number of companies had put out tartan footwear.

There is even punk tartan footwear, typically leather or denim with lots of hardwear and holes in them and a tartan layer showing through. Some of them are woofin' ugly, so it doesn't take much imagination to see why the shoes are not going into production. Keds seems to be on the right track--generally better quality and finishing that the other brands--but tartan doesn't make an ugly shoe any prettier.

Several upscale women's shoes were sporting tartan footbeds, even in dress shoes. I guess the industry has decided that tartan is cool, but they haven't figured out what to do with it beyond the lower priced novelty market.

Will tartan become popular in footwear, or will it go the way of the knee-high "Wookie boots?"
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

Nice, we bought some T shirts on this site for the kids, they turned out nice. I just showed them the shoes, looks like I know what I getting them next...

    Cool, Dude, Wookie boots.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
