Seems that the intention was to show people in bizarre outfits having a good time. They might even have put the kilts on backwards on purpose.
The gent in Evening Dress is wearing an Other Ranks' sporran of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, nicknamed "the swinging six". (But one of his tassels is missing.)

Really??? Any idea when and where? There was some urban development going on near my office many years ago. In the course of that, they found the theater where Edison showed the first movie. I wonder if it might have been around there.
