Well gentlemen, just to muddy the controversy a bit more (there aren't nearly 100 opinions expressed yet) I will put in a word in defense of the "rubbish" of storing them rolled and flat. I have tried using hangers of all kinds for years with less than satisfactory results. A kilt can get just as wrinkled squeezed in between a bunch of other clothes on a rack crushing it sideways as it can improperly laid flat. I don't own any Armani suits but I did serve in the Navy when and where I was taught how to properly fold and roll even a full dress uniform (enlisted) to be stored in a very compact locker yet look fully pressed (with creases in all and only the right places) when taken out to wear. After seeing a post somewhere about rolling kilts for storage, I tried it on mine and found this method to work best for me. I can roll and store several kilts in a cedar lined drawer (longer than the length of the kilts) and have them look just as good (sometimes even better) than when I put them away. Somehow I just can't imagine too many kilt wearers of the 18th, 19th and even much of the 20th century having fancy hangers than I can sailors of the same period having hang-up wardrobe closets. But hey, if you got it and it works for you, go for it ;-)
