Yeah, I've noticed the Natives like us. I was told by a group of Crow last summer that the kilt is the garment of a warrior, and that if I have the stones to wear one for no reason, then I must be a warrior- and we're all brothers. I spent that weekend eating and drinking on the dime of the Crow Nation. Gotta love the brotherhood.

I have been told the same by a Sioux woman.
Have not yet broached the subject with the folks from Taos Pueblo.

Gordon,
Hopefully, you will be better received than I. Once, in a meeting with the Taos Pueblo council, we were discussing their love for their ancestral lands. I related a personal feeling of loss for Scotland and its mountains since my forefathers were exiled at the end of the '45. They looked at me with some disdain and were mildly insulted that I would try to draw a parallel between their history and mine! To be fair, we were opening what was known to be a fairly controversial meeting and I was trying to find some common ground to start. Even though Taos Pueblo is well-known for their usually polite nature, they were having none of my drivel!

I have been relatively closely associated with the folks at Taos Pueblo for the past 15 years, both as an employee, contractor, employer, and friend.
I have been kilted for the past 18 months, and have yet to find the proper opportunity to broach the subject with anyone from the Pueblo. Even if I were to get a positive response from one member, my guess is that there is a 50/50 chance that I might get a negative response from the next tribal member that I spoke with.
This is not in any way meant to be negative, it is just to say that the Native People of North America are certainly not homogenous.

Sometimes, people who are trying to explain their plight don't appreciate what they might view as "competition".

FYI This thread seems to be wrapping around toward the mutual esteem between the First Nations and the Scots discussed in the book: "White People, Indians, and Highlanders" in this thread.

I don't know how much Ron knows of traditional Northwest coast dress. I describe it as Kilt, Cape, and Cap. I have noticed my modern native friends tend toward knee length apparel over full trousers. A brown utility kilt even mimiks the traditional colour of cedar bark fabric, as the common t-shirt colours mimic those of a traditional Button Robe. Interesting to ponder the connexions but I'll stop now before I spin too far on a tangent.
