    Let's hope this doesn't take

I am all for men in skirts (like kilts), but these fashion trends are taking the concept a little to far.

Re: Let's hope this doesn't take

Definitely, each to their own. I have a good friend who is about as much a big, burly, man's man as they come carry around a murse. That's his choice and I respect it...

But let me just mention, that this thread may be headed into rocky terrain. I thank the OP for throwing an interesting news article out to us... It IS an interesting read... BUT... Even though the Miscellaneous forum is set up for non-kilted discussions, all other rules still DO apply, including:

    Rule #9
    – This forum is not the place for the discussion of cross-dressing.

Please bear that mind, as even in the Miscellaneous section, I've seen forums get yanked because they've gone sour.

If there are any questions or concerns about this or any other rule, you may send a PM to me or any of the moderator team... We don't bite.... (hard).

Here is a shortcut to the complete list, just in case anyone would like to read them again: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...q=xmarks_rules

Please consider this fair warning for future discussion here...

    Mewelry

Joe Pesci's pinky finger used to be the only place you'd find a splash of silver and stone on a man's body. But thanks to Johnny Depp, pirate tastemaker, men are gathering colorful, beaded chains and arm bangles to their treasure chest—that's a rugged name for a 'mewelry box'.
this one I don't get, I know plenty of people that wear jewelry.... rings, necklaces, bracelets..Take a look at any "biker" 90% of those guys wear lots of silver...jewelry has been made for men LONG before Johnny Depp's costume designer decided to make "Jack Sparrow" Wear rings and such in his costume....

I for one have always worn rings, I have 5 that I wear all the time...and been wearing since before Pirates came out in the movies...

as for the rest... too each his own, how am I to tell people what they can or can't wear, I know a guy who wears (what looks like to me) a very long skirt, he says it is a summer wrap thing that keeps him cool, I say go for it, if that's what makes you feel good!

but I still don't get the Mewelry thing

Some of this is just not to my taste (so what?) and others seem okay and still others, well, I just don't get the issue (agree with KWD re: "Mewelry") BUT NONE OF IT seems to me to be much beyond 17th and 18th century European style, especially the wonderful French. Vivre la vie!

Re: Let's hope this doesn't take

Gentlemen, please keep in mind this is runway fashion which has always been about tearing down walls and exploring possibilities. Mens fashion here has no bearing on what men wear. It simply can't as the models don't look like men anymore than female runway models look like ladies. Designers do take small bits of these shows and use them to make next years fashion trends.
Take the sporen vs the manpurse vs cargo shorts. All hold a lot of junk that you might need in your day. The sporen is what? 1000 years old? The man purse is "new" and cargo shorts date to WWII. We all influence one another whether we want to or not. But I don't see myself buying a manquini any time soon. :-)
Please excuse the spelling errors. My IPhone is "helping" me.

Huh...Most of this is just a rebranding of women's and/or men's fashions to make them sound new. The others are just gross.

Re: Let's hope this doesn't take

Have to keep in mind that the majority of these pictures are satirical, like Conan in whatever those are, or the "fashion" shows. Even the lad in the heels (and how he stayed on his feet is beyond me) had a number on his back, so must have been part of an event, likely for charity.

Man-bags, satchels, "murses", sporrans, or any other name you add in, have been around forever. In 1400 (ish) BCE the ancient egyptian men had satchels made from leather they often carried along with their pleated skirts made of flax fibre or wool (sound familiar?). Though myself personally, I wouldn't wear one with pants, but that's just me...

I don't see most these trends taking a firm hold in reality.

Except scarves, they're here to stay I'm afraid...

Either which way, that posting gave me a good laugh this morning and certainly helped to brighten my day a bit! Thanks!! =)
