Re: Hebridean Heather
Chris you won't be disappointed with the claret/brugundy hose with the Maclaren Anc. They are my go to hose with the same kilt. In fact I may have to get another pair so they'll be ready when the others wear out.

I imagine so. Now I need to secure an unlimited hose budget!

I rather like the claret hose idea, would match the claret in the tartan.

Re: Hebridean Heather
This is the outfit in question. Small picture, but the best I have right now. Especially now that I see the picture, I think some claret or burgundy hose would be an improvement.

Re: Hebridean Heather
My favorite hose is claret. Beautiful color that I think is the "little black dress" of hose. Goes with everything IMO.
I really love that tartan. I've never seen it before until now. Gorgeous and claret would look amazing with it.
As far as shirts, just about anything would be fine. Maybe not a bright pink or putrid green, but that is about it.

Great looking outfit! Not that the grey hose you are wearing look bad, mind you. But yes, the claret would add a nice splash of color without being overwhelming.

Re: Hebridean Heather
Seems that the tartan is various shades of grey, with claret overstripes.
My tendency would to NOT make the rest of my outfit those same colours- just as, in Saxon dress, if you started out with a dark grey sportcoat you wouldn't go with dark grey trousers, dark grey shirt, and dark grey necktie.
If I were do wear a dark grey kilt jacket with that dark grey tartan, I would certainly try to break out of the monochromatic look with the rest of the outfit. Claret for hose and necktie is OK but that merely restates a colour already present in the tartan. I would look for a colour NOT in the tartan, which co-ordinates rather than matches.
What about yellow hose? Bright blue? Some shade of green? Scarlet rather than claret? Add a splash of colour!
My favourite hose with my Isle of Skye kilt are claret, and blue, which neither colour exists in the tartan. I really like the combination of claret hose and blue shirt with that kilt: they 'zing' off of the tartan rather than restating what's already there.

Re: Hebridean Heather
I wear a deep red shirt with my Black Stewart sometimes. I pair it up with a black tie with a red stripe and silver narrow stripe (regimental style but bought at Sainsbury's... haven't got a picture handy soz...) I think it looks fine. Don't really mind what others think, never asked them.

Re: Hebridean Heather
I think the claret or the grey look grand. But then again, I am the guy who thinks matchy-matchy looks better than random closet grabs, and I wear flat caps with my kilts, so factor that into how much you value my opinion. I DO try to pull one or more colors out of the kilt to work off of for shirt, tie, hose and usually flashes, sometimes even jacket or sweater/jumper--otherwise to my color sense it looks like somebody just dumped a box of crayons on the floor and mixed them up.
One man's O. I think you look great--love the tartan and what you have done to it so far.

Re: Hebridean Heather
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I went ahead and ordered some claret hose, and we'll see how it goes. Now I just need to talk the wife into that new badger sporran...
