I'm with you Jeff... Can't help myself either. Tried random, didn't really like it (on me!).

I think you should break out of the monochromatic, make a statement!

    Re: Hebridean Heather

When you are 6'5" tall and 270 pounds, generally just walking into a room wearing a kilt makes a statement. Were I to "splash it up" with a lot of color I think I would just look like a walking billboard for the local Picasso exhibit. So I tend to go more monochromatic or dichromatic with small flairs of color to accent those in the kilt. Example, what I wore yesterday to work:

Dark olive jacket/waistcoat and hose pick out a minor but prevalent collor in the tartan, lighter green shirt the predominant green of the tartan, navy tie another prominent accent color in the tartan as well as the check in the jacket/waistcoat, and the ancient red/orange flashes pulls the orange dominant color from the tartan, with a nice light colored bobcat (a hint of tan and orange) fur semidress sporran to brighten up the look. Not monochromatic but also not random, a bit matchy-matchy but still IMHO a strong look and good color scheme, although I would welcome criticisms or suggestions otherwise.

The only two suggestions I would make Jeff is a lighter coloured shirt, I'm a tattersalls person, and claret or brick red hose.
