Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
Sorry to hear you are in a bad place with your order. Give it a few more weeks before contacting the merchant again. After 12 weeks leave Hume a final message that he has one week to deliver or the order us cancelled and it goes to small claims court.

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
Me doubts that Clansman uses any of the famous kiltmaker to job their kilt orders out to, more likely some nameless kiltmaker somewhere willing to work cheap. Don't know for a fact - just makes sense in lieu of their other choices.
I have done business with them at highland games. But only to buy the most basic of goods - like kilt hose made by a known maker - at a price I know is a discount - and where I could hold the goods in my hand, examine them, pay for them, and take them with me. Somehow that felt like I was "getting even" - even if he made a sale.
I might buy a kiltpin from him at a games if he had what I wanted from a reputable manufacturer.
Otherwise, my advice remains RUN, RUN, RUN....
Too bad the BBB ratings don't go down to "Z"

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
Getting mad at the customer or failing to respond to customer service requests doesn't sound like the best way to do business, especially when you hold someone else's hard earned money.
Why do people act like this? Can it be so much more effort just to do it properly? A good reputation brings more business and more business brings more revenue. Why would anyone not want that... I fail to understand the ethos of this Bloke the more I read.
Staggering!

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I had a gentleman come to my shop sweating bullets because he had ordered 6 kilts and outfits for his wedding party. He had the same issues of being promised everything within 6-7 weeks and it was nearing 12. He had gotten on to the internet only then seeing all the bad internet press and was coming to me as a fall back. As it so happens he called me 2 days later as we were in preps of getting a rush order together and said all the stuff arrived. Be vigilant, but just a note that he did come through with a sizable order.

I ordered a kilt from Ralph with the same clan deal as you're discussing.
Then saw the threads regarding his business dealings. Needless to say I was as concerned as you are. I ordered my kilt on 12/28/10 and received it on 3/10/11. I guess I lucked out.

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
I am so upset I need these kilts in less then 4 weeks for the Clan Ferguson AGM at Stone Mountian, after that I will not need them for 2 or 3 months ,So I am on one hand to get my money back but on the other I cant start over on this. I got 2 kilts ,a fly plaid and flashes and 2 yards of material
for only $238.00 in Polyviscose .A great deal it just the waiting that is crazy and hearing how he has done people in the past, Makes me want to run .
I am going to contact him again tomorrow and see what he has to say.

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
Ralph will lie to your face. I ordered well before I needed my kilt and was told when it would come in. It arrived after I had already left to go to the games where I needed it and I had been in constant contact with him for over a week. It ended up sitting on my front porch for 3 days in the rain. NEVER deal with them again. BTW, Ralph is also now involved with St. Kilda so watch your step with them too. I would only buy from him at a festival/games and then only if I can hold the item in my hands. Of course the quality will be at the low end, just like my kilt.

Re: What should I do? I ordered from Clansmen Knitwaer
You can always cancel and check out Stillwater Kilts. They have a very good reputation and as folks are always saying on this forum, you'll probably have the kilt on your doorstep a few minutes before you even order it! I don't know what tartan you're hoping for, but SWK has great customer service. You'd probably have it within 5-7 days. Just my $0.02
Nothing says, "I love you" like a sporran full of haggis!!
