This is a very timely topic for me. I was doing a search on Craigslist and came across a guy who had received a new Utilikilt for his birthday. It was too small for him so he offered it to me $120.00Ca. I met up with him and the kilt fit me as if it was made to order. It was made in Seattle USA by Utilikilts. I am so happy with the look, craftsmanship and feel of it. The price was fantastic and it had never been worn. Now the problem is, I do wear a traditional kilt while out and about but I had never paid much attention the the guys who wore a Utilikilt. I was wondering what I could wear with this... This post has been a huge help. Thank you.

A lavish website showing gobs of your-merchandise-clad contempo-kilties from hikers to steampunkers, many photos repeated in your store. And a book or monitor rolling customer photos?

A poignant tagline photo with a couple contempo kilties standing hip-ly beside a bunch of (all) blue-jeans-ers at a bus stop or something...

...like, "Contemprary Kilts are NOT nauseatingly trite," the photo showing blue-jeaned elastic-waist grandma and grandpa and half-underwear-showing break-dancer and preteen and yuppie and too-tight rear soccer mom and sports bar was-once-jock and four year-old with finger in nose.

We've got a pretty good list going on here. I'd just add logo t-shirts and/or polo shirts that can be worn in polite company. I mean, I enjoy the "regimental" jokes as much as the next guy, but............

I think like others have said the problem is that there isn't the traditional list of accessories that go along with modern style kilts that you find with contemporary kilts. There would be the usual T-shirts and polos with whatever the company logos happen to be is one option, maybe some jackets that are the appropriate length, belts, sporrans, maybe little things like sporran wallets and flasks, and maybe belt carriers for cell phones and the like since a kilt belt is wider than a conventional belt the carriers most already have most likely won't work. As much as I hate to say it you would probably need to find some kinds of novelty items; just because you may find that you sell a lot of those to folks that come in out of curiosity and aren't truly likely to buy a kilt (at least on the first visit).

Real men already know exactly what they want long before they even know they're going to the store. They've envisioned it over and over, so too many accessories might be a bit of a distraction.

This comes from eons of preparing for the Hunt where the tribal shaman and his people see the game in their minds, move in dances like the game, dream of the game, see themselves eating the game...

Then nothing goes right, and someone probably falls in the lake. They still usually end up with something, so it kind of works. They have to convince themselves they wanted what they got, and that it is better than everyone else's when all is said and done, though.

* in all seriousness, I think being able to see a kilt being worked on is a big plus. I tried to exclude anything like that from my answer. There should be examples of kilt styles, photos of kilts, etc. An even bigger plus is being able to pick between materiel's and styles for the kilt. That really goes to the heart of non-traditional, contemporary kilts. This is why I did not make much of having a bunch of accessories in the store; the focus is on the kilt and it's design.
