A few of the basics in accessories.

I am starting my first kilt and for it I have decided to go with a 1720's -1740's great kilt. I have 16 yards of 60 material (its not real tartan because I don't have that kind of money yet) and I made a good belt and the sporran already and the shirt is next. I am having trouble finding shoes or boots that would have been period correct for the poor highlander. Most images I have seen they are wearing a modern looking moccasin with the legs wrapped in tartan. I just really am not sure where to go with this if there are any suggestions that would be great.

There was an interesting thread a while back. Search for the term Jacobite. I'm not sure how to post a link.

16 yards??? You shouldn't really need more than 4 yards.

These are the thing for being close to genuine for daily wear of a typical Highlander. "Woodsheal" likes them, too. I have a pair, but the sole is very thin. If you have tender feet be careful where you walk and how long.

For these you could wear the "moggans" (tartan leggings) or go barelegged.

If you are intending to dress more as a gentleman, then you might consider buckle shoes from Fugawee. For the day, such shoes were made without left and right lasts. At Fugawee, you can get either. (I prefer the comfort of the R/L last, frankly.)

With these you'd wear hose (without elastic to be authetic) tied at the top with cloth or ribbon.garters.
