I recently ordered a Pitsburgh kilt for camping, hunting etc, and will probably order another soon. I too am horrified about 'hurting' my MacKintosh tartan kilt, so for now it just goes to the brew pub and rugby matches.
However, I know kilts are extremely comfortable and the temptation is always present to do everything kilted (motocross can lead to bad road-rash, I know, I used to race) so a kilt might not be good for that. Also, there is one activity I love doing where I would NEVER consider wearing a kilt. Sky Diving!
I do not want a 150MPH 'breeze' whistling through my nether regions on a drop from 10,000 feet. OUCH!!!!!!
