Re: Kilted Fortnight Scotland Holiday – 2011

Chuck is back in Franklin safe and sound and reports that A Good Time Was Had By All. :-)

He hasn't shared any of his photos with me yet, so it's very nice to see yours, Ern!

Day 4, TUE 9/13- Edinburgh; Holyrood Palace

Our first stop would be Holyrood Palace. On my 2009 visit to Edinburgh I could not visit the Palace as HRH was in residence. Unfortunately, as with most palaces and castles you are not allowed to take photographs inside.

Day 4, TUE 9/13- Edinburgh; Holyrood Palace, cont.,

There were two famous paintings I saw that I didn’t release that were at Holyrood. This one of George IV. Please read this link about his visit to Scotland in 1822.

The other is this one of Culloden Moor. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw it hanging above a door way.

Day 4, TUE 9/13- Edinburgh; Holyrood Palace Abbey

Leaving the Palace I visited the Holyrood Abbey ruins.

Leaving the Abbey, I made my way back to the bus.

    Arhur's Seat in the background.

I had started my day, with the thought to keep count of how many tourists ask to take my photo. I lost count and gave up the task by mid morning. As I was walking to the coach I walked by a large group of young Chinese and quickly caused a traffic jam as they all quickly aimed their cameras at me!

    More to come

    ERN:
Thanks for these pics. For various and sundry reasons I haven't had time off from work since January. I am vicariously enjoying a holiday through these pics. I have had some wonderful times in Edinburgh. I must say man, licensed premises in Edinburgh are great I hope you have some pics to share. My last trip I had the pleasure of making it to the Oxford Bar, the local of Ian Rankin's detective John Rebus.
