    Re: The Kilt Kops

Many of the wedding I've attended have people wearing PC jackets during the day and I'm sure if you asked them about the PC being an evening / black tie outfit they would not know, and these are Scottish weddings attended by Scots. Most of my friends and relatives have only one kilt and jacket so this would be worn to all occasions and people like to dress up smart so the PC gets worn during the day.

I actually like the look and feel of the PC more than my Argyle but usually only wear the PC for black tie events. I've never seen anyone comment about what people wear........as long as you're having a good time then thats more important

If you don't know the conventions then you do the best you can and enjoy the event. Those that know who may be at the wedding are no doubt far too well mannered to say a word------it is not the place for an in depth fashion discussion after all. But, it does not stop those that know from thinking!

Or is it that the conventions are changing? Just throwing out that possibility.

We get caught up in these ideas of "traditional" and "proper" and tend to forget that all of our conventions were at one time, well, unconventional.

    Re: The Kilt Kops

Well, changing is kind of a frightening word, but conventions do evolve. With "saxon" clothes I am old enough, for example, to have seen neckties get wider and wider, then get thinner and thinner, then back to wider again. It's a moving target. If I told you to show up somewhere tomorrow dressed as a 20th century American, you would laugh. The 30s looked different than the 50s, or the 80s, etc. I don't mean just the "popular" clothes, either, I mean what a "Sunday morning" suit would look like. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that this natural evolution (according to the Kilt Kops) suddenly stopped one morning in the Scotish Highlands, and any wearing of any clothing not worn exactly as it was worn on that one morning is not just wrong, it's an insult to every Highlander that ever lived! NOW HAVING SAID THAT, I'm not hanging that moniker on anyone involved in this discussion. As far as I am concerned, the #1 attribute of a "Kilt Kop" is that his advice is always unsolicited. If you ask Jock, or Phil or anyone else involved in this thread their opinion on your outfit, you will get it. Like the answer or not, you asked, you got it. I've rarely if ever seen an opinion out of any of them that wasn't asked for. Kilt Kops also love attention. Anyone that would approach you at an event and with the same tone and tact they would use to inform you your fly is down, tell you that the pleats go in the back, is not a Kilt Kop. A Kop would follow you around until he had the biggest possible audience to point and loudly announce your error.
That post turned out longer than I meant it to be........

    Re: The Kilt Kops

On how to wear the kilt there are two conventions this month, the first will be held this Saturday in Lichenstein in Europe and the second the following Tuesday 11th October in Alicante, Spain.
At both of these conventions there will be thousands of kilt wearers of all shapes and sizes, from looking very smart to very casual, very sexy to very much ridiculous. If anyone wishes to join these conventions all they have to do is be there on the day, but do not attempt to tell anyone how they should wear the kilt, their life may be in danger so just buy them a drink and you will be a friend for life.

And of all people, that's all you have to say on this topic?

Did you develop a Valium addiction while you were away, or what?

For what it's worth, I'm singing the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme in my head right now!

Well hey, someone had to do something to keep it from autolocking after a certain age. . .
