What gorgeous scenery for a kilted hike. Thanks for posting so those of us in the East can enjoy the views of Mt. Rainier.

Wow, incredible scenery!. I grew up in Vermont, which is beautiful, but the mountains there aren't so grand and vast as they appear in Washington. Looks like a nice hike. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for posting these photos. I've only driven around Rainier while in Seattle on business, but I didn't get to hike or do anything but drive around in the area. It's such a great place just driving around on back roads; I can only imagine what it's like actually hiking around there.

    In a kilt!

Re: Hiking Kilted in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park

Great photos, I love leaving the flatland of Missouri and visiting the Cascade range. I also found the joy of hiking kilted on Mt Baker this past summer. I was asked to guide two people to a hopeful summit, which we did make. Ive been on this mountain at least 8 times and have always dreaded the 4 hour approach wearing shorts or worse long pants. Regardless of how quickdry they are, they are just too binding. This year I found the Mountain Hardwear Elkommando sport kilt. The first version was just a basic wrap around skirt but this year the made it with pleats and cargo pockets. What a great approach hike, comfortable and non binding. My climbing partners took it all in stride. Unfortunately I didnt wear it to the summit, usually you are up and on the trail by 3 am with a hopeful low freeze line. So usually wind pants and stuff are required. When we did summit the wind was blasting around and I would have had no modesty left. What mattered was how comfortable a kilt, be it traditional or sport, is when hiking. And this was pretty much the begining of my daily kilt wearing as I wear my Elkommandos daily on my walk to work, the grocery, the pub or anywhere. Keep hiking, your photos were great, Mt Rainier is quite a site to behold.

Thanks for the great pictures Celt72! I was curious if your hiking kilts are at your jeans waist. I too find comfort in my Elkommando kilt which is at my jeans waist but over this past weekend I hiked in my USAKilt casual and was quite comfortable with its higher waist

    Great photos.

I did my basic and A.I.T. at Ft. Lewis in '71. Seeing Mt. Rainier on the morning runs (weather permitting) was always an enjoyable sight. I didn't get off base until the last weekend before the end of A.I.T., so wasn't able to hike the area.
