As far as the sporrans with Utilikilt-type kilts, experiment, be creative, I think it can work.

As far as price; keep in mind that many kiltmakers will have a two payment plan. Roughly half up front with your order and half on completion. That's always helped me "afford" higher quality kilts. Can't hurt to ask the kiltmaker.

And there's a HUGE difference between price and VALUE...utility type kilts are made for rough wear. Saving money there may mean buying a kilt sewn up with cheap thread that won't hold up to the task.

If you can't afford the quality now - then save. Its worth it. And don't forget a quality kilt will hold its value much better than an inexpensively made kilt.

You may be way ahead of me here - but one of the best tricks for saving kilt money is saving your loose change at the end of the day - adds up fast.
