There was a bit of poetic license on my part, but I can remember working at one hospital where I was the only straight, male or female, on 4 wards.
You soon become canny in these sorts of jobs or the job itself weeds you out.
I joined the police initially and left just before Maggie gave the first big pay rise (curses). Partly due to the internal politics and back biting, but in main after witnessing the Met in the miners strike. This is the wrong place to go into it now, but I'm from a mining family, my great grandad and grandad were killed in the pit.
Anyway never regreted it, still helping people and without my social conscience biting me.
