If you can find it, a surplus wide police belt looks quite smart. AND since your here in Halifax, when your ready for a good sporran, like a leather day sporran, you can go over to Dartmouth and speak to Peggy at L&M Highland. Sometimes she has sporrans there that have slight irregularities in the leather that she sells at wholesale price.
