Re: Some of the deep fried goodness from the Texas State Fair

    To ALL:
Check out the link above to the Killdares. They are truly a great Celtic Rock group. The piper and fiddler are world class.

As for the food, it may sound horrible, and look horrible, but trust me some of it tastes wonderful... of course you only have a few moments to enjoy it until your arteries clog with all that horrible stuff.

The Great State Fair of Texas is one of a kind and is billed as the largest state fair in the USA. A true cultural icon. And, if you don't like the United States' version of a fair, you can wait until February when the same 130+ acre site is host to the North Texas Irish Festival.

Re: Some of the deep fried goodness from the Texas State Fair

Having been born in Texas I'd be perfectly happy with cornmeal-rolled fried okra.

Didn't see that in these pics -- too ordinary, I'm sure -- but they definitely had me at chicken fried bacon.

Re: Some of the deep fried goodness from the Texas State Fair

All that deep fried stuff called to mind the deep fried Lindt chocolate balls I had for a lunchtime dessert some months back . . .
Having read about deep fried Mars bars in Glasgow, that is.
Texas seems to have a death wish with all its deep fried stuff!
Having a rock n roll bagpipe band must have been great, but I am afraid the blue jeans were a disappointment.
Okay, so they’re Irish. Tartan is not compulsory. But a kilt of some kind would have been nice.

Re: Some of the deep fried goodness from the Texas State Fair

Had chicken fried bacon before and thought it was very good, but I can't recall the last time I ate something where the main ingredient was bacon and I didn't like it. The sauerkraut balls are actually fairly common bar food around me. They're normally served with some sort of spicy and or dijon mustard dipping sauce and are my new favorite way to eat kraut; except on a good old fashioned reuben that is.
Wonder how long till Starbuck's puts in deep fryers and has people ordering deep fried caramel-mocha latte thing-a-ma-drinks. Might actually get me into one of their shops to try one of those, but doubt it.
