Now that's interesting. Whilst there is not quite a full 50% difference it is not quite as low as 15-20% for me either. I guess our pricing bands must be different. Many kilt makers over here are now using MM as their standard cloth but the range is a little limited

Re: Pricing???
Another apology due to Rocky from me. I just checked my price lists and he is quite right
When I compare like for like the price difference is nearer to Rocky's calculations than mine. It's only when we start to get into the rarer tartans that we start paying a larger premium

I used ROUGH numbers and said (with MM's recent price hike) that there's about a 4 GBP / M difference in price between their cloth and HOE or Loch (not including HOE's "Nevis" range where there's actually less than 4 GBP / M difference). I divided 4 GBP by the average price per meter of HOE's cloth and it came to roughly 15 - 20%.
As I said, this DOES NOT account for "old and rare" pricing.

Ahhh... your last post beat me to it. ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
With the way the mill pricing on wool keeps creeping up, MM will soon be about the same as everyone else on pricing.

They seem to be going that way
I wasn't properly comparing like for like with my first post

Re: Pricing???
In the details for sure! What kind of thread is holding the kilt together? Who wants to sell you this kilt? Are they a trained kiltmaker, a middleman/jobber - and if the later who is sewing up the kilts for them and how long are you gonna wait for it?
You can have any two of price, quality, or service.
I don't understand the expectation that kilts should be priced the same - any more so than flat caps, jackets, sporrans, kilt hose, shoes should be priced the same.
Its up to us to learn, then make our choices.

22oz was not uncommon for OR ranks in the Highland regiments, there used to be a different weights for officers. I stand to be corrected but I think maximum weight now is 18oz, with officers preferring 16oz
