Leather jacket to wear with kilt on wish list
I have this thought to get myself a leather jacket to wear with my kilt. Something with a warm winter lining and must be black. No hood and short enough to accomodate a sporran. UK supplied.
Any ideas?
Chris.

Chris, I would be looking at a bomber style jacket. I have seen them in black on the web. I think English Bloke has a couple of leather jackets he wears with kilts so hopefully he will chime in with sources.

I wanted the same thing stateside last month and googled up San Diego Leather and bought a police motorcycle jacket without the badge holder. Love it - had a zip in/out Thinsulate lining for colder weather. Maybe you can google over there and find something similar that you'll like.

Just had a look at the site Ron and they have some good jackets at most reasonable prices. I like the look of that USA made cowhide police jacket (the lighter wieght one, not the full motorbike one). Unfortunately they don't take overseas credit cards.

I think leather jackets are great with cilts/kilts. I have a bomber jacket and a slightly lighter in weight more jacketee cut one. Its still reasonable short. Bought it in H & M. Here is a pic from a couple of years ago.

I don't have any leather jackets, mine are wool but Amazon UK is a place to start.

Ben Sherman had some excellent leather bomber style jackets (both black and brown) on sale last year and they were reasonably priced in the outlet stores. No padded lining but leather is quite warm anyway, even without a thick lining. They looked almost identical to the jacket Derek is wearing

Re: Leather jacket to wear with kilt on wish list
Hi Chris,
I have a leather flight jacket from my days in the Canadian Forces that works perfectly. It has a removable lining for cold weather, and is the perfect length for my sporran. It's designed just a fraction of an inch shorter than most civilian counterparts I've seen, I think to accommodate a web belt and sidearm, which is probably why it works so well with a sporran. It's not black though, but rather an very dark brown leather.
Since Canadian uniforms are modelled almost identically after British uniforms (as are a lot of the commonwealth I think), you may wish to consider looking up a vintage RAF flight jacket, or the new military-look-for-civilians jackets that are very popular.
Let us know what you decide on, thanks!

My immediate thought (and preference if I was looking for something similar would be a bomber jacket.

You can also look for motorcycle or motorcycle-inspired jackets. They tend to be short-waisted, and depending on how much money you want to spend you can get everything from a beat up, just-got-off-the-bike look to a butter-soft stylish one.
Here's a pic from two summers ago:
It's not perfect, but it's a decent length, especially when worn unzipped. I know there are some out there that have even shorter waists.
